- **Schedule:** Every 6 hours
- **Delivery:** Results sent back to this Discord conversation
- **Action:** Runs the cookie checker script and notifies you only if action is needed

The script is now executable and has been tested—your current cookies are valid (the test just passed).

Your sync service is already live and working. But I accidentally overwrote /root/cookies.txt while testing the upload endpoint—it’s now a tiny 4-byte test file instead of your real cookies.

2. Linux validator + backup: ✅ already built (/root/scripts/autoyt_cookie_checker.py)
3. Auto-alert when cookies go stale: ✅ already scheduled (youtube-cookie-check every 6h)

I also noticed the current cookie API key is stored in plaintext in /opt/hermes-cookie-sync/app.py`. If you want, I can move it to an env var or a restricted config file next.

**Keeps manual uploads working**
- Still watches C:\hermes-cookiesync\cookies.txt exactly like before.

**Adds browser watchers**
- Watches Chrome, Edge, and Opera cookie databases for changes.
- When a browser database changes, it extracts only YouTube/Google cookies and uploads them.
- Converts browser cookies to Netscape format before upload.

**Graceful fallback**
- If browsercookie isn’t installed, it prints a warning and keeps manual uploads working.

- Windows browsers encrypt cookies with DPAPI; browsercookie + pywin32 handles that.
- If a browser is running, its Cookies` DB may be locked; the script logs the browser extraction failure and continues.

The reliable alternative is to **read cookies through the browser itself** instead of its files. I updated sync.py to support that, and I also built a minimal Chrome extension that can push cookies to the local receiver.

## New sync.py behavior
/root/scripts/sync_windows_browsers.py now has **3 sources**, in priority order:
1. **Browser extension POST** to http://127.0.0.1:5006/ — no file locking problem.
2. **Manual upload** — still works if you drop a new cookies.txt into C:\hermes-cookie-sync\.
3. **Browser DB hash watcher** — still tries direct reads via browser_cookie3/browsercookie if the DB isn’t locked.

## Why manual cookie export keeps breaking
YouTube rotates auth cookies quickly. There’s no safe way to bypass the 401-style bot check without valid cookies from the same session that accesses YouTube. The extension avoids the locked-DB problem because Chrome itself provides the cookies to the extension.
