1. **Backed up the current live bridge script**

2. **Fixed the skill template** (the source of truth for the bridge)

* Commented out the block that sent the Hermes reply **directly** to the Discord private channel (the try:/except: block around lines 279‑286 in the template).
After commenting, the bridge no longer sends a message to the private channel itself—it only calls the mirror script.

3. **Applied the updated template to the live script**
Copied the edited template back to /root/.hermes/skills/mirror_bridge.py.

4. **Restarted the service**
sudo systemctl restart hermes-mirror – the service is now active and running without syntax errors.

5. **Confirmed the mirror script already sends to both Telegram and Discord private**

**Result**

- When a user sends a command (starting with !) in the **Discord public channel**:
1. The bridge (mirror_bridge.py) receives it, calls hermes chat -q to get a response, **does not** send anything directly to the private channel.
2. It then invokes mirror_chat.sh with source="discord".
3. mirror_chat.sh sends a single mirrored message to:
- Telegram public group ($TELEGRAM_MIRROR_CHAT)
- **Discord private channel** ($DISCORD_MIRROR_CHANNEL)

- Telegram‑source messages continue to be mirrored to Discord private + Telegram public group as before.

- No duplicate messages appear in the Discord private channel because only the mirror script now writes there.

**Verification**

- The service is active:
● hermes-mirror.service … active (running)
- A manual test of the mirror script succeeded:

**Rollback option**

This prevents the bridge from sending its own message to the private channel.

3. **Mirror script already set** – Your earlier edit to mirror_chat.sh (added a send_discord call in the discord source block) remains, so when the bridge invokes the mirror script it now sends a single mirrored message to:
* Telegram public group ($TELEGRAM_MIRROR_CHAT)
* **Discord private channel** ($DISCORD_MIRROR_CHANNEL)

4. **Deployed** – The updated template was copied to the live script location and the service restarted:

### Current behavior (Discord source)
- User sends a command (starting with !) in the **Discord public channel**.
- Bridge (mirror_bridge.py):
* Receives the message, calls hermes chat -q to get a response.
* **Does not** send anything directly to the private channel.
* Calls mirror_chat.sh with source="discord".
- mirror_chat.sh sends one formatted message to:
* Telegram public group
* Discord private channel
(contains the original user message, the Hermes response, a timestamp, and a “Mirrored from Discord” label.)

### Verification
- Service status: **active (running)** – no syntax or startup errors in the journal.
- Manual test of the mirror script works:
